Details of Speakers

A South African miner involved in the bitter struggle against British-owned mining firm Lonmin will join an impressive line-up of speakers from across the trade union movement at Unite the Resistance’s national conference on 17 November.
Independent trade unionist Hind Abd-el-Gawad Ibrahim will fly from Egypt to join the platform, which also includes campaigning barrister Mike Mansfield QC and stalwart left-wing Labour MP John McDonnell.

Trade unionists among the speakers include PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka, FBU general secretary Matt Wrack, BFAWU president Ian Hodson and NUT deputy general secretary Kevin Courtney.

Zita Holbourne, a PCS executive member and joint chair of BARAC (Black Activists Rising Against Cuts), author Owen Jones and Unison NEC member Karen Reissmann (speaking in a personal capacity) are also confirmed speakers.

More than 1,000 activists will come together at the conference, which will take place in the wake of the 20 October TUC demo, to discuss the way forward in the fight against austerity. The all-day conference will include plenty of time for discussion and debate from the floor.

Election of UTR steering committee
Debate on aims and objectives of UTR
Union/sector meetings (5pm – 6pm)

The conference rooms will be handed over to union groups to discuss their ongoing struggles against austerity.
