Sheffield Head Office Branch – Fairtrade Fortnight Stall 27th February to 11th March

Fairtrade Facts
Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. The Fairtrade Foundation is a registered charity; you can find more information about the Foundation and their work on their website http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/.

Fairtrade products are available in major supermarkets, independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Fairtrade goods you can purchase include fresh fruit and vegetables, coffee, tea, wine, chocolate, cut flowers and beauty products.

To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight and to help educate people about the benefits of Fairtrade ULRs in Sheffield decided to put on a Fairtrade stall. They started by contacting as many producers of Fairtrade products as they could find and asking for their help.
The ULRs were given information and samples from a variety of companies, plenty to put on an eye catching stall! Tea, coffee, raisins, dried mango, rice cakes, cotton bags and soaps were all kindly donated to be given out.

Two ULRs then staffed the stall giving out soaps and tea bags and collecting names of visitors to be entered into a prize draw for the larger donated items that they couldnt give out on the stall – the “my other bag is a Louis Vuitton” canvas bag being the most sought after item.
The ULRs felt that most importantly of all, they were able to explain to people exactly what Fairtrade is all about and the benefit of choosing products with the Fairtrade logo.
Over 200 people visited the stall on the day so the ULRs definitely got the message out there

Good work put in by our Branch ULR,'s  Fair trade exhibition at Kings court raised £54.52p for the Oxfam International women’s day campaign. By selling cakes made by colleagues using fair trade products!!

If you are interested in getting involved in Union or fancy getting yourself on a course od some kind have a word with our ULR's
