Branch Tribute to Martin Jenkinson

CELEBRATING MARTIN

Please don’t wear black for Martin,
He’d not have wanted that,
He hated the formalities
That made life dull and flat.

This is to celebrate his life,
He’d want you to be glad
For everything that he achieved,
This very special Dad.

He loved the working classes,
And always fought their side,
He never looked the other way
Or took the ‘easy ride’.

A wizard with a camera,
Supporter of the needy,
He stuck with all the grafters,
Not the fat cats and the greedy.

He didn’t snap celebrities
To earn a princely sum,
He’d mingle with the workers
On picket line or ‘scrum’.

His photos soon made history,
They soon were on display.
He left a priceless legacy,
Still marvelled at today.

So don’t wear black for Martin,
This is a celebration.
It’s people like this hero
Who make Britain a great nation.

Raise your glass to Martin,
Be proud to say his name,
A  man who used his talents
For the people, not the fame.

Poem by Anne Spencer of behalf of the branch

Dear Members

A dear friend and supporter of the trade union movement sadly passed away this week we have been asked By Bill Ronksley from Sheffield Trades Council to pass this on please see links to the Charity chosen for any donations and also the link that gives a bit more information about Martin and his fantastic work he has done over the years.

We have been asked by Martins family Edwina and Justine to let people know about the details and for it to be circulated. Martin Jenkinson's Funeral will be on Wednesday, June 27th, at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium, Hutcliffe Wood Road, Sheffield, S8 OHN.  There will be a reception at the Red Lion, 653 London Road S2 4HT afterwards.

Martins family would like to stress this is a celebration of his life and in keeping with Martin's respect of formality black is not an essential dress code.  This might prove difficult for some of Martin's photographer colleagues no flowers thank you as there will be a collection after the ceremony for pancreatic cancer research.  In the meantime if you would like to make a donation please click on this link  http://www.justgiving.com/martinjenkinson if any one would like to attend the funeral please click on this e mail so that they can get an idea of the number mark@id8photography.co.uk .

In addition for further information please see this Piece in the The Star but please be mindful of the departments EMP Policy
