Letter to Members

Dear Members

Nationwide PCS Branche’s including our branch have written to the NEC to support protests on the 14th November further action is also planned on the November 30th.

Along with other branch’s this letter urged the NEC to support branche’s putting together various activity’s on the 14th as an act of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Europe and to send a clear message to the TUC.

The NEC has responded by giving encouragement to Branche’s to support marches and rallies on the day. We would like to encourage all members to flex off at 3:45pm and Join the rally in Sheffield at the Town Hall at 4.00pm

On the same day protests are going on in several countries in Europe it’s the branches believe we should be in this fight not sitting on the sidelines.  This is a massive struggle we face.

We have seen attacks on our pensions, job cuts, attacks on trade union rights, imposed new appraisal system and now their after the terms and conditions.  In Addition we have had the corporate and Shared Services Review, and now the latest announcement In Shared Services.

The same forces that attack you are also attacking our brothers and sisters in Europe that is why we are seeing a growing grass root pressure to not only build nationally but in fact across Europe.

Flexing off a bit early is hardly going to bring the system crashing down but it’s a move to increase pressure on the TUC leadership as much as anything and it’s the least we can do to show solidarity with those heroic and historic struggles going on in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Italy and more countries are set to join this.

On October the 20th in London the call was for greater action from our own general Secretary Mark Serwotka as well as many others lets get the show on the road.

Fraternally Yours
Sheffield DWP HQ Branch

Sheffield Trades Council

Sheffield trades council are calling on all members and students to join fellow trade unionists from across Europe in a day of action against Austerity.

Sheffield trades council will host a rally in support of striking workers and students in Spain, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus and Malta, Who will all take part in General strikes on this day.

We are calling on all workers and branches to take action and join the demonstration outside town hall at 4pm.

This is a historical day for Europe and our movement as the resistance to Austerity and this rotten system broadens across boarders. we need to understand that the fight in Athens and Madrid are the same fight as in Sheffield.

We are urging all members in our branch to collectively flex off at 3:30 and join us at the town hall all over Europe workers are doing General Strikes. We should be joining them lets show the TUC we want a general strike now

Join us 4pm 14th November Sheffield Town hall.

Solidarity to our brothers and sisters all over the world fighting back

Sheffield Trades council
